“Despite its harshness, Manzanar was one of the more hospitable camps. It as very hot in the summer, very cold in the winter, and windy all of the time, but its extremes were not as bad as some. Also, the second director at Manzanar, Ralph Merritt, was known for being more sympathetic.”

Note:  The structure in the background is a watch tower.
